There are many places to hide on all of the maps, and you just can't do that to defeat the monster. In my opinion, this game should've either not had stunning required to end a hunt, or at the VERY least just make it only require a single stun, but the monster being slightly longer to stun/gets slowed less by the UV light. With every item destroyed, it gets faster as well. Oh, you want to run away while the monster is staggered? The monster did a Dragon Ball fusion with Sonic the Hedgehog. If the monster has another charge ready, it becomes IMMUNE to stuns and you're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for a few seconds.

Remember when I said the monster is harder to stun the more items you destroy? About that.the first stun is almost always easy to nail. Unlike in Phasmo, the UV light is a secondary use on your flashlight, and is used for slowing the monster and stunning it, as well as burning minions (more on them later). Now about stunning, stunning is a really stupid mechanic. You'll revive your teammate, another teammate will find a ritual item, and then suddenly you hear the monster roar and more likely than not, you will lose a teammate within 20 seconds and have to sack another medkit. The major difficulty comes in the form of hunts being triggered with every ritual item destroyed, the monster becoming harder to stun with more items destroyed, and the hunts happening back to back like someone binge watching a show. This makes back to back hunts extremely difficult, especially when low on medkits which are required to revive downed teammates. In Devour, the monster DOESN'T stop hunting until you stun it (more on that later) or if it catches and downs someone. In Phasmo, you can hide and wait out hunts. In the farmhouse map, I played with 2 others, and we would get 8 at most before the monster started hunting every 20-30 seconds and annihilated us. In Devour, getting all 10 ritual items as 4 is decently difficult. In Phasmo, you can clear all maps solo or with just another person with ease, even with minimum gear. I love how the entire system operates, alongside each ritual item on each map being different in mechanics and destruction. Hunts are always triggered when you destroy a ritual item, but like in Phasmo they can trigger randomly after a bit. The monster is almost always visible and moves around, meaning you can prepare for when it will begin hunting. Not to mention character customization and perks.īasically, instead of finding ghost evidence and doing bonus objectives, Devour requires you to find and destroy 10 ritual items (goats, rats, eggs, and books) to defeat the monster. Devour manages to achieve something which Phasmo hasn't yet. I really like how proactive the game wants you to be, unlike in Phasmo where a lot of the time it is defensive and just waiting around for the ghost to do something. Where Phasmophobia is a passive game of baiting the ghost while watching and waiting, Devour is an aggressive game where you have to move move move, and kill kill kill. For example, an original way to respawn, or an additional riddle, or different tasks, or different ways to protect yourself would be welcome. An odd one. This pales in comparison to other similar games, like Pacify, which manages to add something original to the mechanics of each level. Updates start to feel less like updates and more like new skins for the game. Even though the updates are cool and the creatures are too, it still feels very repetitive since you are doing the same task over and over again. The biggest downside to Devour is its repetitiveness. It’s a lot more terrifying to play alone, but it’s still doable which shows that the game is well-balanced and thought through. You can also do all the levels solo, which greatly increases the scare factor. Also, it requires a good bit of actual co-operation and is hilarious to play with friends, what with all the screaming and all. Devour is a very cool co-op game as it keeps you both entertained and invested. Each one presents an interesting map, a terrifying creature to deal with, and entertaining objectives (even though the main task remains simple and more or less the same). The updates to this game are fairly good. Why can’t we just worship the god of cute, fluffy, bunny rabbits? Pros
